Glenasmole
This project started back to 2022, marking the start of a 3 year process to finally get approval in May 2025 for a newbuild rural dwelling for a local farmer and his young family. Glenasmole valley in the Dublin mountains is a beautiful, scenic landscape and the local authority are rightly very selective about any form of development in the area. We approached this sensitive site by keeping material choices simple, honest and natural. The form is deliberately long and low, and situated below eye level behind an existing mature treeline to minimise any visual impact from the existing road. There were significant challenges across a wide range of planning criteria, but we believe this is the first newbuild approved in the area since 2011 which is testament to our talented and dedicated design team who stayed the course. A special mention to our clients who were also a huge part of this process. Hill farming is in decline, and our clients family have farmed this land since 1736. This legacy was under serious threat without the real need to provide housing for the people who live and work in the area. A responsive architectural approach was the only way to achieve this and satisfy the needs of the delicate setting, so we are beyond delighted for all involved.
